Story of the 1952's

written by Brian Nelson and Mike Tinti, Troop 25, Manchester, CT

First years, second years, everybody young

You think you're up at camp and missin' lots of fun

So you think you've got a case of the Kirkham blues

Then listen to the story of the 1952's

The first time they saw the site it was a lot of woods

They saw the work they had to do and didn't feel so good

No electric power, not even a single lamp

But they chopped down a couple of trees and ended up with camp

The woods here at camp, they started very thick

But the 1952's just cleared it really quick

Fires burned to clear the trees night and day

Then it took a couple of months just to clear the smoke away

In the beginning, there wasn't an LT

The forest and the leaves and trees was their place to pee

After a couple of days they needed a place to go

So they dug a pair of LT's and then they let it flow

Thirty years later, this is what you see

All the work the age group did and what it came to be

After hauling all the trees and moving lots of dirt

All the guys got out of it was a lousy shirt.
