Seneca Rocks Campout

Seneca Rocks Campout

Join us for a 2-night campout at the majestic Seneca Rocks in Monongahela National Forest, WV. Seneca Rocks is a premier West Virginia landmark and a haven for rock climbers. Rising 900 feet above the North Fork River, this striking Tuscarora quartzite formation offers dramatic views of the surrounding valley.

Camping Location

We will be camping in an established group campsite at Seneca Shadows Campground.

Planned Activities

We will be working with Seneca Rocks Climbing School to complete an all-day beginner outdoor rock climbing course on Saturday May 2nd. This would be for scouts who are up for a challenge, and would like to earn the rock climbing merit badge.

Here is how the day will progress:
8:00am - meet at the shop to get gear and harnesses before driving to the Nelson Rocks Preserve where we will be climbing
9:00am-Lunch - Safety checks, go over subjective and objective hazards, review some important knots. Scouts will belay each other with a safety backup, rotate through so everyone has a turn
1:00pm - break for lunch (we will bring a packed lunch)
Afternoon - Change to repelling. Watch Demonstration how to belay from the top. Everyone will run through a couple of repels.
5:00pm - Back to the shop

Cost

There is no fee for scouts to attend this camp-out or to do the climbing course, however scouts must sign up by April 15th in order to attend. Talk to your patrol leader about what food to bring on this camp-out.

RSVP Deadline: April 15th
